AFUES Student Awards

1.  Ukrainian 30 awards for Eastglen, O'Leary and M.E. Lazerte students.
For each school the student applicant who receives the highest academic achievement in Ukrainian 30 receives $500.00 and one student applicant in each school receives $300.00 for most improved in Ukrainian 30. Teachers submit the student names and application forms and the cheques are made out directly to the students.
Whether or not these scholarships are awarded by AFUES or UPBCE they must conform to the guidelines of the Casino Regulations.
a.          The decision-making body is AFUES.
b.          Recommendations for decisions can be made by teachers based on the application made by the students and forwarded to us.
c.          The applications must include all our criteria, a notice to the applicant that his or her name will be published as receiving the award, and permission for this from their legal guardian.
d.          Applications must include the final mark of the student in Ukrainian 30 suitably certified.
e.          In the case of an application for most improved, the student's first mark of the year in Ukrainian suitably certified (photocopy of report card) needs to accompany the recommendation of the teacher.
f.          It must be made clear to the applicant that the award is a scholarship and not a cash prize. Monies will be held in trust by AFUES and will only be disbursed to the student on his or her providing AFUES a copy of their tuition fee receipt from an educational institution.

2. Ukrainian 10 and 20 awards for Eastglen, O'Leary and M.E. Lazerte students.
For each school $150 for the highest achieving student and $100 for most improved or enthusiastic students in each of Ukrainian 10 and 20.
a.          The decision-making body is AFUES.
b.          Recommendations for decisions can be made by teachers based on the applications made by the students and forwarded to us.
c.          The applications must include all our criteria, a notice to the applicant that his or her name will be published as receiving the award, and permission for this from their legal guardian.
d.          Applications must include the final mark of the student in Ukrainian 10 and 20 respectively, suitably certified.
e.          In the case of an application for most improved or enthusiastic student, the student's first mark of the year suitably certified (photocopy of report card) needs to accompany the recommendation of the teacher.
f.          It must be made clear to the applicant that the award is a scholarship and not a cash prize. Monies will be held in trust by AFUES and will only be disbursed to the student on his or her providing AFUES a copy of their tuition fee receipt from a junior high or high school (e.g. Kursy, Osvita) course or post-secondary institution.

3.          Ivan Franko School of Ukrainian Studies
In each level of 4 levels a $200 scholarship will be awarded to the student who achieves the highest academic average in that level. In each level a $100 scholarship will be awarded to the student who achieves the second highest academic average in that level. In cases of ties, Ivan Franko Kursy will decide how to fund the awards. AFUES will not increase the amount granted.
a.          The decision-making body is AFUES.
b.          The recommendations for decisions can be made by teachers based on the applications made by the students and forwarded to us.
c.          The applications must include all our criteria, a notice to the applicant that his or her name will be published as receiving the award, and permission for this from their legal guardian.
d.          Applications must include the final marks and average of the student in levels 1-4 respectively, suitably certified.
e.          It must be made clear to the applicant that the award is a scholarship and not a cash prize. Monies will be held in trust by AFUES and will only be disbursed to the student on his or her providing AFUES a copy of their tuition fee receipt from a junior high or high school (e.g. Kursy, Osvita) course or post-secondary institution.

4.          Osvita Summer School at St. John's Institute
Students that successfully complete their course at Osvita will receive $100.00 on submitting an application to AFUES signed by the Director of Osvita.
a.          The decision-making body is AFUES.
b.          The recommendations regarding decisions on an application can be made by the director.
c.          The applications must include all our criteria, a notice to the applicant that his or her name will be published as receiving the award, and permission for this from their legal guardian.
d.          Applications must include some indication of completion, suitably certified.
e.          Applications must include evidence of tuition paid for the course.
f.          Applications must include the names and mailing address of the students.

5.          A University award in the amount of $800.00 is awarded annually to applicants who are in the Faculty of Education and receive a high mark in a Ukrainian language course and a second language methodology course.
a.          The decision-making body is the CIUS Scholarship committee.
b.          The applications must include all our criteria, a notice to the applicant that his or her name will be published as receiving the award, and permission for this from their legal guardian.
c.          Applications must include a transcript of marks.
d.          It must be made clear to the applicant that the award is a scholarship and not a cash prize. Monies will be held in trust by CIUS and will only be disbursed to the student on his or her providing a copy of their tuition fee receipt from a post-secondary institution to CIUS. Therefore students should apply in their 3rd year or expect to continue their studies in the year following the award.

6.          University of Alberta Modern Languages course in Ukraine
Students will get a $250.00 bursary subject to this course being their first award for educational travel to Ukraine since grade 7 (Minutes Dec. 7, 2005)
a.          The decision-making body is AFUES
b.          The applications must include the criteria, notice to the applicant that his or her name will be published as receiving the award, and permission for this from their legal guardian.
c.          It must be made clear to the applicant that the award is a scholarship and not a cash prize. Monies will be held in trust by AFUES and will only be disbursed to the student on his or her providing a copy of their tuition fee receipt from this course.

UBLA, Ukrainian Bilingual Language Association
BUCPS: Bilingual Ukrainian Catholic Parents Society for the Ukrainian Bilingual Program in Sherwood Park.
ECSUBPAS: Edmonton Catholic Schools Ukrainian Bilingual Parent Advisory Society,
Scholarships up to $500 in total for each organization will be made by AFUES on the following basis
a.          Each student needs to make an application and meet at least one of these criteria:
i.          Received the highest academic achievement in Ukrainian in their grade
ii.          Improved the most in Ukrainian in their grade.
b.          Teachers or the above named societies may submit the student names along with their applications.
i.          The decision-making body is AFUES.
ii.          Teachers, based on the application made by the students and forwarded to us, can make recommendations for decisions.
iii.          The applications must include all our criteria, a notice to the applicant that his or her name will be published as receiving the award, and permission for this from their legal guardian.
iv.          Applications must include the final mark of the student in Ukrainian suitably certified.
v.          In the case of an application for most improved, the final mark of the student in Ukrainian suitably certified (photocopy of final report card) needs to accompany the recommendation of the teacher.
vi.          It must be made clear to the applicant that the award is a scholarship and not a cash prize. Monies will be held in trust by AFUES and will only be disbursed to the student on his or her providing AFUES a copy of their tuition fee receipt from an educational; institution. The cheques will be made out directly to the students.
